Debbie
Twyman
Born and raised in the Heart of America, Debbie earned her Bachelor's degree at Drury College in Springfield, Missouri and her Master's degree from Webster University's Kansas City campus. She began her career in education as a dramatic arts teacher at the middle school level, and now teaches juniors and seniors in high school. Her subject matter areas include Film Appreciation and social studies. In addition, she is an adjunct professor with Ottawa University, teaching graduate-level service-learning classes to K-12 teachers in the greater Kansas City area. Debbie is proud of her activities on behalf of young people, through her political party activities. This included attending the national nominating convention of her political party in the summer of 1992, as a delegate. She supports national educational/teachers' associations and reforms that work. With her husband, she has attended and presented workshops at a variety of state, regional and national conventions for the service-learning movement and the Coalition of Essential Schools. Currently, she teaches two courses, The American Citizen and Film Appreciation. She would like to teach classes that are completely online. Debbie Twyman and Craig Whitney were married on January 1, 1990. They enjoy working together, at times team-teaching high school social studies courses. Debbie and her husband have two grown children, both of whom graduated from Kansas State University and have created their own healthy, productive lives. Their daughter, Ginny has established her career in the advertising field in the Kansas City metro area. She married a caring, gentle man named Cliff in the fall of 1997. Their son, Matt, a talented songwriter/musician -- as well as a teacher, in Phoenix -- has a wonderfully bright and happy son, Joey.
