Craig
Whitney
After teaching social studies, language arts, and even ESOL for a few years in California and Arizona, Craig changed his mind about the whole education thing. He worked for a while in city government, in New Mexico's criminal justice system (no, not as an inmate), and finally in private industry. In the summer of 1984, he was hired by Clive Frasier (obviously, the most competent administrator who ever graced the halls of Northtown) to coach baseball and teach social studies. During the following two decades, he has coached baseball, soccer, and softball, taught Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics, citizenship/civics, contemporary issues, world history, and U.S. history, worked in other jobs to support his family, and appeared to sleep little. During his tenure at NKCHS, he has been proud to help hundreds of students graduate into successful post-high school lives. Craig has worked for years in behalf of public education and young people through his political party activities. This included attending the national nominating convention of his political party in the summer of 1996, as a delegate. With his wife, Debbie Twyman, he has attended and presented workshops at a variety of state, regional and national conventions for the service-learning movement and the Coalition of Essential Schools. Currently, he teaches two courses, The American Citizen and AP U.S. Government and Politics. Craig and Debbie Twyman were married on January 1, 1990. Marrying Debbie and the birth of his children and grandchildren are the best things that ever happened in his life. Craig's interests include reading (especially science fiction) and lots of movies, as well as traveling as often as possible, all of this on teachers' salaries, which requires some fancy financial footwork. Craig enjoys being creative with computers, working on Web pages and online, Web-based learning experiences for his students.
