Animation

Perhaps more than any other film genra animation has the power to reach the most diverse of audiences. Traditionally viewed as a children's art form animation has increasingly receieved widespread acceptance from mainstream adult audiences. Ironically enough this tranformation from childrens media to adult media may have been orchestrated by the Disney company - a houshold word associated with younger set for years. With the advent of such blockbuster successes as The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast in the late 1980's and early 1990's animation gained not only widespread acceptance but much deserved recognition from the artistic community.

Our Film Appreciation class will be examining a variety of cartoon classics during the course of this unit. We will examine such diverse cartoon superstars as Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry in addition to classic Disney Animated Features.
