Loosely based on Michael Crichton's best selling novel, "Jurassic
Park" stars the legendary director Sir Richard Attenborough
as a wealthy entrepreneur who has secretly created the ultimate
combination theme park and zoo, a Jurassic park that features
live dinosaurs. The dinosaurs have been drawn from prehistoric
DNA that has been derived from the blood of mosquitoes who were
encapsulated in amber during the Jurassic age. Before he can open
the park to the public his investors, (at the urging of the insurance
company), insist that the preview the park for the experts. The
experts, in this case are a paleontologist (Sam Neil), a paleobotanist
(Laura Dern), a mathematician who is an expert in chaos theory
(Jeff Goldblum), and his two precocious grandchildren (Joseph
Mazzello and Ariana Richards). Needless to say their visit is
anything but routine. When the parks security system is shut down
in the midst of a hurricane the prehistoric creatures break free
proving once again that "It's not nice to mess with mother
nature!"
The film quickly became one of the most successful in box office
history primarily on the strength of its amazing special effects (which were created at by Industrial Light & Magic [ILM] [full-motion dinosaurs] and Stan Winston Studio [live-action dinosaurs])which feature the first use of the CGI (computer generated imaging)process.
